I recently rode past Fountain’s Abbey near Ripon where this photo was captured.
It was during a day trip visiting the famous ruins and of all the images I came home with, this was my favourite.
Initially I was trying to capture a ghostlike shot, by setting the camera on a long exposure and then wandering around in front of the camera with the shutter open, waving my arms and making ghostly noises. I think the other visitors to the Abbey thought I was perhaps an escaped lunatic and the underground room quickly emptied.
This shot highlights the dirt floor and the curved columns supporting the upper level. The cross near the window at the far end of the room was the icing on the cake for me in this shot.
The photo is available as a print, canvas and in a variety of other formats here.
